Wallet Libre

Wallet Libre makes an Apple Wallet pass out of a store or library card: scan the barcode, check the number, and add it to Wallet.

Common questions

• Where does the pass show up? In Apple Wallet, once you tap Add to Apple Wallet on the card’s screen. The card itself stays in Wallet Libre, so you can rebuild the pass after an edit. If you gave the pass places, Wallet can surface it on the lock screen when you arrive at one.
• The barcode did not scan at the counter. Turn your screen brightness up. Codabar cards (most library cards) are drawn as an image rather than a native Wallet barcode, so Wallet does not brighten the screen for you or offer tap-to-enlarge. On iOS 27 you can switch a card to the poster design, where Wallet draws the barcode itself and does both — see Card design on the card’s screen. Either way the number printed under the bars is there for a human: whoever is at the counter can type it in.
• A long card number warns about density. The pass is a fixed width, so more digits mean thinner bars. Past roughly 17 digits the bars come out finer than the printed card and a desk scanner may struggle. The app says so rather than refusing.
• A pass reads “needs update”. Rebuild it from the card’s screen in the app and add it again; it replaces the one in Wallet rather than duplicating it.
• Only some of my library’s locations were found. Open the card, tap its places, and use Add more places to search for the rest by name. Apple Wallet shows at most ten locations per pass, so the nearest ten are chosen for you.
• How do I delete my data? Delete the card in the app, or delete the app. There is no account and no server-side copy to ask us to erase — see the privacy policy.

If a pass failed to build, the error screen in the app has a message on it — quoting that message helps most. Please do not send your card number; it is not needed to diagnose anything, and we would rather not have it.
